Dr. Brian Herst is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist who brings a unique blend of expertise, compassion, and a personal touch to every patient he treats. With a focus on both medical and surgical management of glaucoma, Dr. Herst is skilled in everything from comprehensive eye care to cutting-edge Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), ensuring that your vision is in expert hands.
A proud graduate of the University of Illinois, Dr. Herst earned his Bachelor of Science degree before continuing his studies at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. His residency training in ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago included serving as Chief Resident in his final year—a testament to his leadership and commitment to excellence. He later completed a glaucoma fellowship at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, where he honed his skills in managing complex cataracts and glaucoma surgeries. Currently, he trains future ophthalmologists as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush University in Chicago.
Dr. Herst is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the American College of Surgeons, the Chicago Ophthalmological Society, and the Chicago Glaucoma Society, constantly staying ahead of the curve with the latest advancements in eye care.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Herst enjoys spending time with his wife and their three young children. Whether it’s hitting the tennis court, golfing, or escaping to the tranquility of the north woods, he values his time spent with family and outdoor activities.
